The Shape of Things to Come

Well it’s late in the hour
And a few more grains of sand will fall
On the colorful flowers
Have grown upon the dust and moss

Now I fear the worst is near
I hold them close and count their years
And pray a ray of light appears
To shine down on us here

Break down in the shape of things to come
But I’m moving on like a soldier
And I say now when all is said and done
It’s not ours to break
The shape of things to come

There’s a crack in the clouds
But only for a moment now
Like an eye looking out, in blue skies
Finds the roads we will go down

I wonder what they hold for us
I hold my family to my breast
I fear the worst and hope the best
Will come to see us blessed

Break down in the shape of things to come
But I’m moving on like a soldier
And I say now when all is said and done
It’s not ours to break
The shape of things to come

The Shape of Things to Come ~Audioslave~

I find it harder and harder to listen to the news, and I’ve always been one who keeps up on current events. But, to keep my anxiety at a manageable level and try to stay positive about life, I’ve had to cut out a lot of the news from around the world. I’m not sticking my head in the sand to avoid it all, but now I get caught up on the current affairs and then make my mind move on to something else. It can be so frustrating, completely immobilizing, and downright scary to hear of what we have become. I don’t know what it will take for things to change, but if this is the shape of things to come, I don’t want to see it.

Sorry to be a downer, I’ll just say that this is a’not enough coffee in the world’ kind of day to get me feeling alive and kicking. But, when I look at the colours of this picture that I took yesterday I feel a brightening of my mind. I just love the tones in this, it’s funny how my emotions can be swayed so easily, I’m just this blob of emotion ready to pick up vibes from something…..anything……*sighs* But, anyway……I’m wearing the ‘Sofia Turtleneck Dress’ from LEGAL INSANITY and it’s a good thing I have curves in all the right places because this really hugs them! ‘Sofia’ is Maitreya exclusive and comes in eight really pretty colours. I’ve opted for the red……so I guess you could say I’m the Lady in Red, if you must. 🙂

This tousled hair is ‘MAYU’ from Argrace.

My look all starts with the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya. I’ve added one of the 4 options from the ‘Sexy Smokey Eyeshadow’ set from M I L A. My eyes are from the ‘Nissa Eyes’ set from Zombie Suicide.

I was going deep into my poses folder yesterday and came up with this one from the ‘Breathe Easy’ set from Le Poppycock.

I’m at Mother Road for this shot! I love the dry heat of the desert!

The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes

PART ONE

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding—
Riding—riding—
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

He’d a French cocked-hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,
A coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin.
They fitted with never a wrinkle. His boots were up to the thigh.
And he rode with a jewelled twinkle,
His pistol butts a-twinkle,
His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.

Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard.
He tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred.
He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord’s daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.

And dark in the dark old inn-yard a stable-wicket creaked
Where Tim the ostler listened. His face was white and peaked.
His eyes were hollows of madness, his hair like mouldy hay,
But he loved the landlord’s daughter,
The landlord’s red-lipped daughter.
Dumb as a dog he listened, and he heard the robber say—

“One kiss, my bonny sweetheart, I’m after a prize to-night,
But I shall be back with the yellow gold before the morning light;
Yet, if they press me sharply, and harry me through the day,
Then look for me by moonlight,
Watch for me by moonlight,
I’ll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way.”

He rose upright in the stirrups. He scarce could reach her hand,
But she loosened her hair in the casement. His face burnt like a brand
As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast;
And he kissed its waves in the moonlight,
(O, sweet black waves in the moonlight!)
Then he tugged at his rein in the moonlight, and galloped away to the west.

PART TWO

He did not come in the dawning. He did not come at noon;
And out of the tawny sunset, before the rise of the moon,
When the road was a gypsy’s ribbon, looping the purple moor,
A red-coat troop came marching—
Marching—marching—
King George’s men came marching, up to the old inn-door.

They said no word to the landlord. They drank his ale instead.
But they gagged his daughter, and bound her, to the foot of her narrow bed.
Two of them knelt at her casement, with muskets at their side!
There was death at every window;
And hell at one dark window;
For Bess could see, through her casement, the road that he would ride.

They had tied her up to attention, with many a sniggering jest.
They had bound a musket beside her, with the muzzle beneath her breast!
“Now, keep good watch!” and they kissed her. She heard the doomed man say—
Look for me by moonlight;
Watch for me by moonlight;
I’ll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way!

She twisted her hands behind her; but all the knots held good!
She writhed her hands till her fingers were wet with sweat or blood!
They stretched and strained in the darkness, and the hours crawled by like years
Till, now, on the stroke of midnight,
Cold, on the stroke of midnight,
The tip of one finger touched it! The trigger at least was hers!

The tip of one finger touched it. She strove no more for the rest.
Up, she stood up to attention, with the muzzle beneath her breast.
She would not risk their hearing; she would not strive again;
For the road lay bare in the moonlight;
Blank and bare in the moonlight;
And the blood of her veins, in the moonlight, throbbed to her love’s refrain.

Tlot-tlot; tlot-tlot! Had they heard it? The horsehoofs ringing clear;
Tlot-tlot; tlot-tlot, in the distance? Were they deaf that they did not hear?
Down the ribbon of moonlight, over the brow of the hill,
The highwayman came riding—
Riding—riding—
The red coats looked to their priming! She stood up, straight and still.

Tlot-tlot, in the frosty silence! Tlot-tlot, in the echoing night!
Nearer he came and nearer. Her face was like a light.
Her eyes grew wide for a moment; she drew one last deep breath,
Then her finger moved in the moonlight,
Her musket shattered the moonlight,
Shattered her breast in the moonlight and warned him—with her death.

He turned. He spurred to the west; he did not know who stood
Bowed, with her head o’er the musket, drenched with her own blood!
Not till the dawn he heard it, and his face grew grey to hear
How Bess, the landlord’s daughter,
The landlord’s black-eyed daughter,
Had watched for her love in the moonlight, and died in the darkness there.

Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky,
With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high.
Blood red were his spurs in the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat;
When they shot him down on the highway,
Down like a dog on the highway,
And he lay in his blood on the highway, with a bunch of lace at his throat.

. . .

And still of a winter’s night, they say, when the wind is in the trees,
When the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
A highwayman comes riding—
Riding—riding—
A highwayman comes riding, up to the old inn-door.

Over the cobbles he clatters and clangs in the dark inn-yard.
He taps with his whip on the shutters, but all is locked and barred.
He whistles a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord’s daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.

I know that’s a long read, but believe me, it’s so worth it! This poem has captivated me for so many years and I just felt that this picture had this kind of mood. No, I’m not the landlord’s black eyed daughter, but I can relate to her self sacrifice, mainly because I would do anything for the people I love. I hope it would never come to that, that I have to kill myself to save anyone, but I truly would give up my life to save someone I love. Yea, I know it sounds kind of trite, and easy to say because it hasn’t come to that, but look at the people who have lost their lives, doing the most heroic of things, and not just for people they love, but for complete strangers. The people that are completely selfless when in situations that hard choices must be made, and are done in the blink of an eye, and the ones who survive these miracles will say they’d do it again with no thought of their own safety. I can only hope I act in this way if ever in this situation. I guess a person never knows how they’ll react when in dangerous situations, but I hope I’m the one helping in any way I can, instead of leading the charge, running in the opposite direction as fast as I can while yelling, ‘Run Away!’.

This shot has a lot in it, but what I really want to show is that I’m in, what I call, the master bedroom of the ‘Galveston’ home from Galland Homes. It’s part of the February Builder’s Box, which is still available in-world or on Market Place. This house has a land impact of 128 with two extremely spacious rooms for decorating ease. I’m in the second smaller room, which I’ve made into a master bedroom, complete with a fireplace and 5 windows in 3 directions, making for some amazing views while enjoying some privacy. The larger room also has a fireplace and with it’s many windows and vaulted ceilings it really makes it so versatile for many decorating styles. The front door opens out onto a small porch with a nice railing, perfect for watching the sunset in your rocking chair! Here’s a closer look at the outside!

I’m sitting sadly here, using the ‘Careless Whispers’ pose from the ‘Heartache’ pose sets from Le Poppycock. There’s 2 sets, each with 6 thoughtful or sad poses with rose pose props for that lost love. They’re available at the current round of The Chapter Four.

I have a lot of decor out here, so I’m going to keep it simple and run down what’s what and from who! 😀

Stir My Soul

After taking a picture, I take time to think about what I want to say, and usually on weekends I give my mind and opinions a day off and take a musical interlude. But, since I had one a few days ago I feel I should think a little bit this fine Saturday morning. So, after an hour or so wondering what to write, while I vacuumed no less, it came to me to talk a bit about one of the things that Second Life offers us. I’ve really come to enjoy the live music scene, that’s alive and well in-world. The quality of artists is truly amazing and the variety is vast. I take in at least one live show a day, and enjoy the time just sitting quietly listening, this morning it’s an early show by one of my favourites, singer/songwriter/guitarist Jack Slade. His sad songs and soulful guitar always stirs my soul. There really is something for everyone when looking for live entertainment, the thing to do is just go! Find a scheduled show and drop in! I follow The Keys Management Group on FaceBook and get a rundown each day of the performances going on around the grid. There’s something magical about live music that makes everything feel all right.

The ‘My Heart Jewelry Set’ is a new release from !NFINITY and it’s perfection is in it’s simplicity. The set of necklace and earrings, in either gold or silver, are 100% original mesh, resize on touch, and the necklace is HUD driven to add your initial, an ‘L’ for me! 😀

The ‘Junghwa’ hair is from [monso].

I’ve added the ‘Catwa Closed Eye’ applier from Izzie’s here, for the smooth closed eye look.

My look all starts with the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

This is pose 29 from M I L A Poses.

Dammit Jim.......I'm a Blogger, Not a.......

………..oh, you’re not saying I’m anything but a blogger, Jim? Good good, because you know I’m not a doctor! Well, the term blogger is a very general term, and what does being a blogger really define someone as? Well, anyone who expresses themselves in some form online is a blogger, in my mind. Whether it’s writing or photographs or anything that you want to show to your readers. It’s all blogging. I can only speak of blogging in terms of Second Life, so my form of blogging is showing off virtual fashion and poses, and sometimes decor or buildings, from some of my favourite designers. It all starts with choosing something to focus on in the photo, usually it’s fashion or a pose, sometimes home decor or buildings. Then there are times that I just want to take a picture that shows a little bit of myself, focusing on lighting and mood. So I put together an outfit and choose a pose, then it’s finding a location to take a picture at. I love finding new sims or new areas of sims I’ve been to, and then to see these places in different lighting is one of the things I’m OCD about. Just one more windlight, always one more, to see if there’s a better one. Needless to say, my picture taking does consume a bit of time with me trying so many! I then work on camera angle, trying to get the best vantage point to make everything look it’s best. At this point I want to add that, like anyone else, not all days go well. Some days the technical part of it isn’t working for me and Second Life is being it’s glitchy self, some days I’m just not feeling it, and this makes every picture different, with some being better than others. It’s just life…..I love it when it all goes easy and I get a good one, but it’s OK if I have to work a bit at it, and redo the shot…again and again and again. Like I did for this one. I had a shot I really liked, but then I noticed something that didn’t sit right with me. And when that happens, I can’t see anything but that…so back to Tralala’s Diner I went , recreated everything like I had it, and took new pics. It’s not the first time it’s happened, won’t be the last…I try to look closely at the image to check for, what I call, flaws. You know….the finger stuck in the hip, the hair through the neck, or the shoes below ground level. Since I don’t use Photoshop, I have to make it as close to flawless as I can in-world, which isn’t always easy. After I’ve got a picture, I then think of what I want to say in the post. Some days I have lots of things to say….and then there’s the days all you get is song lyrics or a poem. But, even though I’m not using my own words to say something, my choice of lyrics or poem are speaking for me. Once I have it all done, then there’s nothing left to do but post it, and it’s links to my various social media accounts, telling all of my faithful, and much appreciated, followers that I have something new for them to peruse!

I’m wearing the ‘Leather Jacket and Dress’ from fame femme and it’s a beaut! I like that word, ‘beaut’! 🙂 Anyway, the jacket comes in 10 colours and the dress is HUD driven with 10 colours to choose from, and it’s fitted for the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

This pose is from Bauhaus Movement and it’s part of the huuuuge ‘Hearts Burst Into Fire’ fatpack available now at The Liaison Collaborative. You can also purchase any of the poses individually.

The ‘Boys & Girls 70’ hair with headband is from DURA Hair.

My skin, although altered with the windlight, is ‘Raine’ in ‘miel’ tone from Avada. I’ve added a bit of shadow from the ‘Satin Shadow Set’ from Buzzeri. And, it all starts with the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

Gaze Long Into the Abyss

I’ve just spent 45 minutes trying to make sense of Friedrich Nietzsche and I can now report that that is not enough time! I was going to write something meaningful and profound, but while doing some research on the ‘staring into the abyss’ quote, I realized that there’s no way I can come close to saying anything that wouldn’t make me look like a complete idiot. I do have an open mind, and am will to try form thoughts about how I interpret things, but this is ‘waaaay out there for me’! It’s not that I don’t get the very basic meaning……but to actually write about it, is a whole other thing. You know the saying, ‘it’s better stay silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt’? Yea…that was meant for me….and I know when to keep quiet!

I’m always drawn to poses of sadness, so the newest set of poses and props from Le Poppycock are perfect for me! The ‘Heartache A & B’ pose sets are all gut wrenching in their emotion and you’ll probably be seeing each and every one of them here, eventually! This one is called ‘Secret Sorrow’ and includes the rose with falling petals. This set is perfect for anyone that feels alone during this time of year. With everyone throwing their love and romance at you, when all you want to do is put on your jammies and watch a good movie while eating a pint of ice cream straight from the container! The ‘Heartache’ sets contain six poses each, with rose props and are available now at The Chapter Four.

I’m wearing the newest release from DURA Hair here. It’s the ‘Boys & Girls 82’ and available now at The Men’s Department.

The ‘Betina Tank Top’ is from Addams.

I made it over to the flash sale at Blueberry last week and grabbed the ‘Kimi Skirt’, among other things.

The look all starts with the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa, the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya, and the kitten feet from SLink.

I found the incredible Neverfar sim. Joining the group does give rez rights, but worth every penny.
