Reading Priorities

I’m not a well read person, I must admit. I love to read, but I’m very aware that my choice of books is sometimes questionable. Oh, I believe all reading is good, to immerse myself in a story and forget about reality for a time is gloriously freeing, but I know there’s a ton of literature out there that’s well worth reading. I need to open myself up to reading something that takes me to places I’ve never been. I’ve been to Stephen King’s world many many times, I’ve read about murders, in true crime and in fiction, so many times that I’m amazed it doesn’t affect me in some way. I’ve read westerns where the fast gun has been romanticized over and over again. I read romances, the bodice rippers where the endings are always happy, and I’ve read Nicholas Sparks, never managing to not cry during it. But, I have to say I don’t read enough classics! I’ve not read anything by Hans Christian Andersen or Jack London……I’ve always meant to read Louissa May Alcott, Mark Twain, and J.D Salinger, but haven’t…yet. I should discipline myself and read even one classic for every 5 general fiction books I read, then maybe I’ll consider myself well read. I guess if one considers Dr. Seuss a classic author then yes, I’m very well read, because ‘Hop on Pop’ and ‘Horton Hears a Who’ should be considered classics!

I’ve talked about reading before, so you know I love to read, but this time I mention it because KraftWork is releasing the ‘James Joyce Library’ in the March round of Deco(c)rate, and this round is sure to be a great one! The theme for March is ‘Days in Dublin’ and if the teasers are any indication this is one I’ll be getting! But back to the library, it has a land impact of 14 when in it’s entirety, which includes the books and shelving, ladder, and lights. The lights are on/off on touch and the ladder has a reading animation, which I’m not using here, as you can tell. πŸ™‚ The set includes each part individually or as a set to rez all at once, which I did for this. The textures are highly detailed with rich colours which makes a perfectly intimate reading area. The Deco(c)rate subscription box will be delivered March 8 at noon SLT, but you only have until midnight of March 7 to subscribe! You can find a kiosk at the KraftWork main store or at the Deco(c)rate Headquarters.

I chose to settle in and read a little bit here using the ‘Double Booked’ pose and pose props from the ‘Book Lovers’ set of pose/props from Le Poppycock. The props include books, book piles and cats….every library needs at least one cat!

As for my other clutter in the library? Well, it includes books, of course! The ‘books & tea’ beside me is from tarte and the tall pile of books to my left is a group gift from Nutmeg. The ‘Sepia Peonies’ are from NOMAD and the ‘hat boxes’, ‘Hello Billy-vase’ and the ‘rug’ are from gacha sets from Apt B. The ‘Bermuda Turntable’ is from .:revival:..

And for my outfit, I’m wearing the ‘boyfriend jeans, dark wash’ and the ‘Deep V Sweater, blushed’, both from fashionably dead. The ‘Vanilla’ hair is from [monso]. And, my look all starts with the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

You can also find me on my blog, What a Beautiful Mess!.

Whore Couture

Ok, this is going to be kind of a weird topic, but it’s something I think about every time I ponder the ‘thong’! There was a time, not so long ago, that the word ‘thong’ didn’t mean an undergarment. Yea, back in the day anyone could be heard to say, ‘hey….I just have to slip my thongs on and I’ll be right there!’, or maybe ‘toss me my thongs!’. When I was much younger I wore thongs all the time, everyone did, a person could do anything in thongs! Because, thongs were footwear!! Yea……what you call flip flops now? They were called ‘thongs’ back in the day! I’m not sure when it happened that the ‘flip flop’ was created, heck…maybe it was always that way in other parts of the world, but here in the land of the ‘bunnyhug’ and ‘toque’, flip flops were thongs! I’ve adapted to this change, since I no longer wear thongs on my feet, and I won’t admit to wearing or not wearing a thong. In the virtual world, though, I do wear flip flops and a thong, but never at the same time! That would just be wrong! πŸ˜€ It’s funny how words change meaning and things get different names, I find the evolution of the English language quite fascinating, actually! Who know what’s next to change, it happens everyday, it seems!

So, I talk about the thong because the newest release from Elle Boutique(formerly Slipper Originals) is for the Whore Couture Fair, and it’s a little bit more revealing than usual! The ‘Iris Thong Panty’ is available, starting today with the opening of the WCF, along with the super sexy ‘Alessandra Thigh Chains’! The thong’s exclusive to the Maitreya mesh body, HUD driven with 7 metals, 22 strap, and 14 gem colours, along with being super sexy!! The detailing of the gems and chain is a pretty accent to go with the simple straps. The thigh chains are fitted for the Maitreya, SLink, and Belleza mesh bodies and the HUD contains 7 metals and 10 garter colours, along with being materials enabled for some extra shine! The Whore Couture Fair runs until March 31st.

I love the lighting created here in the ‘Abstract Backdrop vol 2, which is the latest Group Gift from KraftWork! It’s SO worth being a member of the KraftWork group, with the plentiful and impressive group gifts, all for the low price of 25L$ to join. This backdrop is HUD driven with 3 colour options, and includes the ‘Holo Chair'(not seen here) for photos and a pose stand to make posing easy.

The ‘KATE, FUR’ heels are from N-core. They fit the Maitreya, Belleza, SLink, TMP, and N-core high feet.

This is one of the 4 poses from the ‘Heini(bento)’ set of poses from .M I L A.. Pose balls are included.

My look all starts with the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada, on the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya and the ‘high feet’ from SLink.

Friday Fun

So, after getting through a rough couple weeks, I’m ready for some Friday Fun! And what exactly is Friday Fun, you ask? Well, it could be anything, really! For me, it’s just finding a little bit of peace, after some pretty stressful days. So, since I did retail therapy during those trying times, I’m not going shopping. I took in quite a few live shows in the last few evenings, so I might do that again this evening. Heck, I think I’ll even stay up later than normal, and although I’d love to have a few Caesars, they’ll have to be virgin since I don’t drink! But that’s doable….I have what I need for them and I can pretend I’m getting drunk. I can slur my words, wobble when I walk and since I’ll be in world but alone in RL, I can hug random people in-world and tell them how much they mean to me, even if I don’t know them! I try to have fun in Second Life no matter what’s going on in my real life, and I think that’s most important! Why would I bring any unhappiness in-world with me, when I can be and do anything I want while I’m here. It’s not always easy when bad things are happening in life, but even the smallest bit of enjoyment can be an improvement over reality. So, get out there and have some fun, doing whatever floats your boat! πŸ˜€

I’ve been sitting at the bus stop for awhile, just reading and getting a cold butt, but hopefully the bus is coming along any minute and I can get where I need to be. I’m sitting at the ‘Urban Bus Stop Scene’ from the ‘Bus Stop props and scenes’ gacha from KraftWork, and available now on the one and only HUD driven gacha, PocketGacha! The set includes 6 common and 1 rare, all with lots of ways to customize! The January round of PocketGacha runs until the end of the month!

The book and sitting pose are part of the ‘Book Lovers’ set of props and poses from Le Poppycock. I’ve used this set before and it’s so versatile. There’s books and cats for props, but unless a stray cat comes around I thought it unlikely I’d be petting one here!

My outfit for this little outing is the incredible ‘Leather Jacket & Sweater’ from fame femme! This is the Black version of the jacket and can be worn with or without the sweater, which is HUD driven with 11 really pretty colours.

The ‘DWL Jeans, classic, skinny’ are from Blueberry.

I know you can only see enough of the boots I’m wearing to know that I have some on, they are the versatile ‘Tactical Flip Boots’ from [VALE KOER].

The ‘WAKANA’ hair is from Argrace, it’s one of my all time faves!

I started with the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

When All Else Fails..........

………hug the dog!

It’s a cure all for what ails you. Well, not for everything, but for matters of the mind or heart dog hugging is recommended by 8 out of 10 doctors. The other 2 doctors say ‘hug the cat’! I’ve always been one of those people that won’t go to other people for comfort, it’s always been an animal who understands me best. When I had cows, that’s where I went because my life always seemed better when I was with them. They accepted me completely, they were always happy to see me, and they could calm me down like nothing else. Some of you may laugh that my pet of choice has always been a cow, but anything can be a pet, mine were always just a bit bigger than most peoples. I have chickens I could go hug, but I’m not sure they’d be open to that, although I’m sure they’d get used to it if I do it enough. As they are now, they’re happiest just doing their chicken things. So, that leaves me with either the cats or the dog to hug. I like the cats, but none of them are really the hugging type, Hazel likes to just sit on my knee, Bob only likes to be petted, and poor stray Nipper, well…I can’t touch him….yet….but he’s getting much quieter. So….I guess the dog it is! I liked having a large dog for this, I could get on my knees and wrap my arms around them and rest my head on their shoulders, but since I only have my little girl, I have to pick her up and squeeze her tight against me. She doesn’t mind luckily, she’s a snuggly little thing, all 12 lbs of her. I sometimes wonder if people with significant others still have to resort to the dog for hugs, I’d like to think their partner would be the hugger of choice, but I guess there’d be times that the dog isn’t the one a person is fighting with at some point. I think the dog would be my second choice for hugs no matter what, if the dog wasn’t my only choice! πŸ™‚

I’m a little sad today, it’s another cloudy day and life is just kind of a downer right now. But, Second Life always cheers me up….even if it’s just a little bit. I want to bring your attention to the current round of ~uber~, which ends on December 23. I know it’s getting to be near the end of the round, but the ‘Pied-a-Tere’ skybox from KraftWork is there, and it’s well worth dropping in to grab it! It’s an adorable little skybox, perfect for one or two people to live comfortably in one room. I prefer a one room build, myself, it’s a nice open floor plan and with a few privacy screens or even just using rugs, little separate areas can be created. The ‘Pied-a-Tere’ has a LI of 58 and a foot print of 15X15m, and the view outside is a very pretty one. It’s HUD driven with texture change on all the major parts so you can customize and make it your cozy little home. Also from KraftWork is the ‘Easy Like Sunday Morning’ sign, which comes in a blinking and non blinking version.

The majority of the decorating in my little home is from the ‘Stockholm Bedroom‘ from ~BAZAR~. It’s a huge bedroom set including the bed(with lots and lots of adult or PG animations, whichever you prefer), chairs, lights artwork, cabinet, candle bottles, men’s and women’s clothes racks, stacks of books, rug, bicycle decor, night stands, clock, headphones, paper bag, men’s and women’s shoe decor, and typewriter. It really is an incredible set and very reasonably priced.

I’ve added house plants from {what next} and dust bunny.

The ‘ROCK’ sign is from a gacha set from .:revival:..

The ‘vintage radio’ is from the ‘Summer is Gone’ gacha set from ..::THOR::...

The ‘old radiator’ is from .junk. but I don’t think it’s available any more.

I’m wearing the ‘Sophia Bustier & Draped Dress from Asteria. The ‘NO.SHELTER hair from NO.MATCH. And as always, the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

I’m in deep thought using the ‘weary’ pose from Del May.

I’ve added a bit of lighting from my much used LumiPro.

The Beat

There’s a song for every moment in my life, whatever my mood or what’s happening there’s a beat that’s in time with mt heart. I close my eyes, and feel the music, everything about it, from the lyrics to the tempo, whether it’s a soft song full of melody or the driving base of hard rock. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to create that music, I think I’d write a lot of slow sad songs, full of heartbreak and pain. Some would have hope, because I’m not without hope, and some would be angry, with a touch of sarcasm thrown in. I’ve never been a truly creative person, I’ve always felt like it’s in me, but I’ve never found a way to express it. It’s funny how Second Life has given me the opportunity to express some of my feelings, I’m not a painter or writer, I can’t play an instrument or sing, but I like to express myself through Liz, and maybe share a few of my thoughts, I’m not a wizard at SL photography or a future Pulitzer prize winning writer, but I always put a little bit of my heart into it.

Today it’s all about tattoos! I love virtual tattoos, you can take them off whenever you want and change them all the time. Not like real life where once you get it, it’s there for a lifetime! I’m sure there are many with regrets about the tattoos they have! I don’t regret mine at all, they’re not very big and I can cover them easily. I’ll leave it at that! Metamorphoses has released ‘Corfu’, a gorgeous floral and foliage design that covers the body nicely, and with both black and white included in the pack, it can compliment anything you might be wearing…….even if it’s only your Birthday suit! You can find ‘Corfu’ at the Metamorphoses main store.

And as for the rest of me? Well, I’m wearing the thong from the ‘Cecilia Lingerie, plum’ set from /erratic/. My hair is ‘Indy’ from Mina Hair and is available now at the Women’s Hipster Event. You’re seeing the backside of the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada and available at the current round of APPLIQUÈ. The sunset is casting a bit of a glow to it, so it’s not a very accurate depiction of it here.

I’m at home here, so you’re seeing a little corner of my life. I enjoy the soft sounds of music from the ‘Big Broadcast Radio, RARE’ from the ‘Vintage Radios’ gacha set from KraftWork. Each radio in the set comes with two versions, one scripted to play music and another for decor purposes only.

The ‘Cat’ is from the ‘Catz’ gacha set from Silas Merlin. You can play this gacha and others for some totally unique artwork, at The Silas Gallery.

The stool with blankets is from the ‘Black Roof Gacha ASet {3}’ from Haikei. And the ‘Himalayan Salt Lamp’ beside it is from the ‘Rainy Days’ gacha set from Ariskea. The ‘Agave’ house plant is from {what next} and the window blind is from a gacha st from Scarlet Creative.

‘The Beat’ neon sign is from the ‘Music is Life’ gacha set from [zerkalo].

The pose is from the ‘Sweet Stuff’ set of poses from Le Poppycock.
