The Shape of Things to Come

Well it’s late in the hour
And a few more grains of sand will fall
On the colorful flowers
Have grown upon the dust and moss

Now I fear the worst is near
I hold them close and count their years
And pray a ray of light appears
To shine down on us here

Break down in the shape of things to come
But I’m moving on like a soldier
And I say now when all is said and done
It’s not ours to break
The shape of things to come

There’s a crack in the clouds
But only for a moment now
Like an eye looking out, in blue skies
Finds the roads we will go down

I wonder what they hold for us
I hold my family to my breast
I fear the worst and hope the best
Will come to see us blessed

Break down in the shape of things to come
But I’m moving on like a soldier
And I say now when all is said and done
It’s not ours to break
The shape of things to come

The Shape of Things to Come ~Audioslave~

I find it harder and harder to listen to the news, and I’ve always been one who keeps up on current events. But, to keep my anxiety at a manageable level and try to stay positive about life, I’ve had to cut out a lot of the news from around the world. I’m not sticking my head in the sand to avoid it all, but now I get caught up on the current affairs and then make my mind move on to something else. It can be so frustrating, completely immobilizing, and downright scary to hear of what we have become. I don’t know what it will take for things to change, but if this is the shape of things to come, I don’t want to see it.

Sorry to be a downer, I’ll just say that this is a’not enough coffee in the world’ kind of day to get me feeling alive and kicking. But, when I look at the colours of this picture that I took yesterday I feel a brightening of my mind. I just love the tones in this, it’s funny how my emotions can be swayed so easily, I’m just this blob of emotion ready to pick up vibes from something…..anything……*sighs* But, anyway……I’m wearing the ‘Sofia Turtleneck Dress’ from LEGAL INSANITY and it’s a good thing I have curves in all the right places because this really hugs them! ‘Sofia’ is Maitreya exclusive and comes in eight really pretty colours. I’ve opted for the red……so I guess you could say I’m the Lady in Red, if you must. 🙂

This tousled hair is ‘MAYU’ from Argrace.

My look all starts with the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya. I’ve added one of the 4 options from the ‘Sexy Smokey Eyeshadow’ set from M I L A. My eyes are from the ‘Nissa Eyes’ set from Zombie Suicide.

I was going deep into my poses folder yesterday and came up with this one from the ‘Breathe Easy’ set from Le Poppycock.

I’m at Mother Road for this shot! I love the dry heat of the desert!

The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes

PART ONE

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding—
Riding—riding—
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

He’d a French cocked-hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,
A coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin.
They fitted with never a wrinkle. His boots were up to the thigh.
And he rode with a jewelled twinkle,
His pistol butts a-twinkle,
His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.

Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard.
He tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred.
He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord’s daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.

And dark in the dark old inn-yard a stable-wicket creaked
Where Tim the ostler listened. His face was white and peaked.
His eyes were hollows of madness, his hair like mouldy hay,
But he loved the landlord’s daughter,
The landlord’s red-lipped daughter.
Dumb as a dog he listened, and he heard the robber say—

“One kiss, my bonny sweetheart, I’m after a prize to-night,
But I shall be back with the yellow gold before the morning light;
Yet, if they press me sharply, and harry me through the day,
Then look for me by moonlight,
Watch for me by moonlight,
I’ll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way.”

He rose upright in the stirrups. He scarce could reach her hand,
But she loosened her hair in the casement. His face burnt like a brand
As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast;
And he kissed its waves in the moonlight,
(O, sweet black waves in the moonlight!)
Then he tugged at his rein in the moonlight, and galloped away to the west.

PART TWO

He did not come in the dawning. He did not come at noon;
And out of the tawny sunset, before the rise of the moon,
When the road was a gypsy’s ribbon, looping the purple moor,
A red-coat troop came marching—
Marching—marching—
King George’s men came marching, up to the old inn-door.

They said no word to the landlord. They drank his ale instead.
But they gagged his daughter, and bound her, to the foot of her narrow bed.
Two of them knelt at her casement, with muskets at their side!
There was death at every window;
And hell at one dark window;
For Bess could see, through her casement, the road that he would ride.

They had tied her up to attention, with many a sniggering jest.
They had bound a musket beside her, with the muzzle beneath her breast!
“Now, keep good watch!” and they kissed her. She heard the doomed man say—
Look for me by moonlight;
Watch for me by moonlight;
I’ll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way!

She twisted her hands behind her; but all the knots held good!
She writhed her hands till her fingers were wet with sweat or blood!
They stretched and strained in the darkness, and the hours crawled by like years
Till, now, on the stroke of midnight,
Cold, on the stroke of midnight,
The tip of one finger touched it! The trigger at least was hers!

The tip of one finger touched it. She strove no more for the rest.
Up, she stood up to attention, with the muzzle beneath her breast.
She would not risk their hearing; she would not strive again;
For the road lay bare in the moonlight;
Blank and bare in the moonlight;
And the blood of her veins, in the moonlight, throbbed to her love’s refrain.

Tlot-tlot; tlot-tlot! Had they heard it? The horsehoofs ringing clear;
Tlot-tlot; tlot-tlot, in the distance? Were they deaf that they did not hear?
Down the ribbon of moonlight, over the brow of the hill,
The highwayman came riding—
Riding—riding—
The red coats looked to their priming! She stood up, straight and still.

Tlot-tlot, in the frosty silence! Tlot-tlot, in the echoing night!
Nearer he came and nearer. Her face was like a light.
Her eyes grew wide for a moment; she drew one last deep breath,
Then her finger moved in the moonlight,
Her musket shattered the moonlight,
Shattered her breast in the moonlight and warned him—with her death.

He turned. He spurred to the west; he did not know who stood
Bowed, with her head o’er the musket, drenched with her own blood!
Not till the dawn he heard it, and his face grew grey to hear
How Bess, the landlord’s daughter,
The landlord’s black-eyed daughter,
Had watched for her love in the moonlight, and died in the darkness there.

Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky,
With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high.
Blood red were his spurs in the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat;
When they shot him down on the highway,
Down like a dog on the highway,
And he lay in his blood on the highway, with a bunch of lace at his throat.

. . .

And still of a winter’s night, they say, when the wind is in the trees,
When the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
A highwayman comes riding—
Riding—riding—
A highwayman comes riding, up to the old inn-door.

Over the cobbles he clatters and clangs in the dark inn-yard.
He taps with his whip on the shutters, but all is locked and barred.
He whistles a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord’s daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.

I know that’s a long read, but believe me, it’s so worth it! This poem has captivated me for so many years and I just felt that this picture had this kind of mood. No, I’m not the landlord’s black eyed daughter, but I can relate to her self sacrifice, mainly because I would do anything for the people I love. I hope it would never come to that, that I have to kill myself to save anyone, but I truly would give up my life to save someone I love. Yea, I know it sounds kind of trite, and easy to say because it hasn’t come to that, but look at the people who have lost their lives, doing the most heroic of things, and not just for people they love, but for complete strangers. The people that are completely selfless when in situations that hard choices must be made, and are done in the blink of an eye, and the ones who survive these miracles will say they’d do it again with no thought of their own safety. I can only hope I act in this way if ever in this situation. I guess a person never knows how they’ll react when in dangerous situations, but I hope I’m the one helping in any way I can, instead of leading the charge, running in the opposite direction as fast as I can while yelling, ‘Run Away!’.

This shot has a lot in it, but what I really want to show is that I’m in, what I call, the master bedroom of the ‘Galveston’ home from Galland Homes. It’s part of the February Builder’s Box, which is still available in-world or on Market Place. This house has a land impact of 128 with two extremely spacious rooms for decorating ease. I’m in the second smaller room, which I’ve made into a master bedroom, complete with a fireplace and 5 windows in 3 directions, making for some amazing views while enjoying some privacy. The larger room also has a fireplace and with it’s many windows and vaulted ceilings it really makes it so versatile for many decorating styles. The front door opens out onto a small porch with a nice railing, perfect for watching the sunset in your rocking chair! Here’s a closer look at the outside!

I’m sitting sadly here, using the ‘Careless Whispers’ pose from the ‘Heartache’ pose sets from Le Poppycock. There’s 2 sets, each with 6 thoughtful or sad poses with rose pose props for that lost love. They’re available at the current round of The Chapter Four.

I have a lot of decor out here, so I’m going to keep it simple and run down what’s what and from who! 😀

#Pryce Body Language Challenge - Feel Me

Don’t just look at me, see through the skin, the flesh, the bones and really feel me, not with your hands but with your mind and soul. I want you to know how strongly I feel and understand that I’m not a simple woman, but neither am I complicated. I’m an open book ready to tell you all you need to know to understand me. Don’t let biases and assumptions get in the way of knowing that what I say is true, I believe you can know me like no one ever has. I want to share myself with you entirely, that moment of eye contact we share while we do the mundane things that life requires connects us on a level that goes beyond our bodies and touches a part of me that can only be the soul. I want to be loved, but not put on a pedestal and adored, I want to be as one……not knowing the line of where one of us ends and the other begins. I am so much more than this body, the real me lies within……and waits to be awakened.

First off, I want to thank Lawrence D. Pryce for inviting me to participate in the #Pryce Body Language Challenge. I’d been seeing this hashtag and have been in awe of the incredible photos that have been a part of it. So for me being invited to take part is truly an honour.

When I chose one of the images Lawrence presented to me, I was taken with the set of her shoulders and tilt of her head. It’s the one that spoke to me the most. I have to admit that I’m a terrible pose maker/manipulator, I’ve tried my hand at both and have had very little success. So, I showed the picture to Olivia Lalonde of Le Poppycock to see if she was willing to try her hand at making this pose. Not only is she one of my featured designers who’s been with me since the early early days of my blogging, but she has become a great friend, and since she’s a fellow Canadian, we just click! Thank you, Olivia, it’s perfect!

This is the Coconut hair from Tetra.

Plus I’m wearing the ‘Soft Briefs’ from Stories&Co. by Flowey.

I’m using the projector for the lighting from LumiPro.

And finally, although it’s black and white, I’m wearing the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

Treaty

I’ve seen you change the water into wine
I’ve seen you change it back to water, too
I sit at your table every night
I try but I just don’t get high with you
I wish there was a treaty we could sign
I do not care who takes this bloody hill
I’m angry and I’m tired all the time
I wish there was a treaty, I wish there was a treaty
Between your love and mine

Ah, they’re dancing in the street — it’s Jubilee
We sold ourselves for love but now we’re free
I’m so sorry for that ghost I made you be
Only one of us was real and that was me

I haven’t said a word since you been gone
That any liar couldn’t say as well
I just can’t believe the static coming on
You were my ground, my safe and sound
You were my aerial

Ah, the fields are crying out — it’s Jubilee
We sold ourselves for love but now we’re free
I’m so sorry for that ghost I made you be
Only one of us was real and that was me

I heard the snake was baffled by his sin
He shed his scales to find the snake within
But born again is born without a skin
The poison enters into everything

And I wish there was a treaty we could sign
I do not care who takes this bloody hill
I’m angry and I’m tired all the time
I wish there was a treaty, I wish there was a treaty
Between your love and mine

Treaty ~Leonard Cohen~

Keeping it simple today! The feature of this shot is the pose. It’s called ‘Sinking Heart’ and it’s from ‘Heartache B’ set of poses from Le Poppycock. There’s two pose prop sets to grab and each have 6 distinctly different, but all sad poses with rose props. I love poses that show deep emotion and all of them in these two sets are incredible. They’re available now at The Chapter Four.

I’m wearing the ‘Kate Cover-up’ from /erratic/. Each colour comes with a solid and a shear version. I just went for the fatpack so I didn’t have to make a decision.

The ‘Corinne’ hair is from {Limerence}.

The little tattoo on my chest is called ‘Enigma’ and it’s from Queen of Ink.

I’m sitting on the ‘Stockholm’ bed from ~~BAZAR~.

As always, I’m wearing the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

The tissue box in the foreground is from the ‘Break Up Survival Kit’ from Commoner.

Gaze Long Into the Abyss

I’ve just spent 45 minutes trying to make sense of Friedrich Nietzsche and I can now report that that is not enough time! I was going to write something meaningful and profound, but while doing some research on the ‘staring into the abyss’ quote, I realized that there’s no way I can come close to saying anything that wouldn’t make me look like a complete idiot. I do have an open mind, and am will to try form thoughts about how I interpret things, but this is ‘waaaay out there for me’! It’s not that I don’t get the very basic meaning……but to actually write about it, is a whole other thing. You know the saying, ‘it’s better stay silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt’? Yea…that was meant for me….and I know when to keep quiet!

I’m always drawn to poses of sadness, so the newest set of poses and props from Le Poppycock are perfect for me! The ‘Heartache A & B’ pose sets are all gut wrenching in their emotion and you’ll probably be seeing each and every one of them here, eventually! This one is called ‘Secret Sorrow’ and includes the rose with falling petals. This set is perfect for anyone that feels alone during this time of year. With everyone throwing their love and romance at you, when all you want to do is put on your jammies and watch a good movie while eating a pint of ice cream straight from the container! The ‘Heartache’ sets contain six poses each, with rose props and are available now at The Chapter Four.

I’m wearing the newest release from DURA Hair here. It’s the ‘Boys & Girls 82’ and available now at The Men’s Department.

The ‘Betina Tank Top’ is from Addams.

I made it over to the flash sale at Blueberry last week and grabbed the ‘Kimi Skirt’, among other things.

The look all starts with the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento head from Catwa, the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya, and the kitten feet from SLink.

I found the incredible Neverfar sim. Joining the group does give rez rights, but worth every penny.
