Snow Country

The northern country snow sings
An early winter soft like static, down
Quaking in the breeze like aspen leaves
Silver whispers blanketing the ground

Cloak my body in my woolen coat
Keep me warm, walk the frozen earth
Watch them slowpoke clouds pass like city crowds
And carry on in a separate world

~Brendon Matthew Thomas~

You can read this poem in it’s entirety here.

This makes winter seem so soft and peaceful, and really, for the most part it is. At least some days in my part of the world. I find that the times most like this are when it’s a bright sunny day, the thermometer hovering around the -30°C mark and just the slightest breeze to make the small branches on the leafless trees shiver. That breeze, though slight, will make that -30°C feel more like -40°C and a person needs a bit more than just a woolen cloak to stay warm. The key is layering! Start with an Under Armour undershirt and finish off with a windbreak of some sort. And in between have layers of various materials all to help keep your body heat in and the winter cold out. I’ve been outside working in the harshest of weather and though it’s not great, it’s not that bad. The worst part of it looking out the window and imagining how cold it is! It’s best to get your clothes on and dive outside, give Mother Nature the finger and say, ‘You will not beat me!’.

Today, my look is all due to the newest release from [KoKoLoReS]! ‘Charlie’ is a very cute, unrigged hair with a non detachable cap, both HUD driven with lots of colours in the four available colour packs and ten colours for the cap. It’s available now at SaNaRae.

I managed to get into the November round of ~uber~ and I grabbed the ‘Anais Cardigan’ from Lapointe & Bastchild like a shot! I opted to not add the included scarf, and it’s all HUD driven with separate HUDs for the scarf and cardigan, with the undershirt being detached for just a cropped cardigan top! ~uber~ runs until December 23.

I’ve chosen one of the nine colours from the ‘Sultry Shadow’ pack of eye shadow from Veechi. It’s available until December 19 at District20 and it’s compatible with the Catwa(seen here) and Lelutka mesh heads.

The whole look revolves around the ‘Raine’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada. It’s available now at APPLIQUÈ, which runs until December 7. The beautiful skin is on the ‘Lilo’ bento mesh head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

This pose is from the ‘Fixated’ bento pose set from FOXCITY and available at the current round of Limit8, which runs until December 13.

I was in the falling snow at the gorgeous winter sim, North, for this shot.

The Mask

Who are we really? No one person shows their true self in it’s entirety to everyone. I know I don’t, and it’s not because I’m not who I appear to be, it’s just that I’m more comfortable to show certain parts of myself to certain people. One person may see me as bubbly and funny and another may see me as somber and introverted, I’m both of those. I guess if someone is in my life long enough they’ll probably see me more completely than some, but I still need to feel the comfort and acceptance to show all of what I am. I can be a great jokester at times and sometimes it’s from just being in a good mood, other times it’s to hide a part of me. You know the saying, ‘if I don’t laugh…I’ll cry’…yea…that’s me sometimes. It may be a mask we put on to hide behind……but if I went around showing exactly how I feel…..honestly, everyone would run for the hills! I’m up….I’m down…..I’m sideways……and it can change at any moment…but the one true thing is that regardless of what I show, it’s me.

This is a little different than my norm, isn’t it! Every now and then I like to completely shake up my look and escape my comfort zone. When I do this, it’s usually wearing items from R2 Fashion. When the new round of Collabor88 opens up I always look at what’s new from R2 and the ‘shikura’ outfit jumped out at me. Although a lot of it is see through, I still feel covered, so I can pose and not feel completely exposed. This outfit comes in three parts, the boots, bra and panties, and little bolero are all sold separately,or as a fatpack, and are exclusively for the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya. It comes in six colours, and in case you’re curious, the panties come in two parts so if you like the feeling of going commando, you can do that too!

I love the ‘Kef’ hair from [Bad Hair Day]! [BAD] has a huge colour palette with each hair having two layers to customize independently, and the pack also includes a mirrored version.

This isn’t an accurate depiction of the gorgeous ‘Raine’ skin from Avada, but take a trip to Appliquè when it opens on November 15 and see how pretty she is. ‘Raine’ is looking good on the ‘Lilo’ bento mesh head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

This pose is from the ‘Smoky Music’ set of poses from Le Poppycock!

I Am What I Am

I spend quite a bit of time scrolling through flickr and Facebook and I always stop to take an extra look at photos that catch my eye. As I take a few minutes to look I can’t stop myself from wishing I could take pictures that good. I see everyone else’s creativity, the lighting, the setting and the pose all together creating a thing of beauty, that I never seem to attain. I’m not saying this for someone to comment that I’m really good or anything like that. I’m just stating how I think about my own work when I compare it with other’s. And, I’m the first person to say, ‘never compare your own work with anyone else’s’, but I don’t practice that, it seems. 😀 I admire so many Second Life photographer’s work and strive to one day be as good, but I have to admit to myself, that I am what I am! I like bold colours, vast horizons, and playing with shadows. I like sunsets, storm clouds and a dusty look, and I’ll take as many pics as I need to to get the look I think is right. And sometimes I give up, knowing that it isn’t going to get any better and I need to save my sanity and not get obsessed with it. Am I completely pleased with every picture I post on flickr and my blog? Not even close…..I have my faves and some that I think a fairly good, and others I just accept as the best I could do on that given day! I’m not perfect, I’m completely self taught, and have no idea how to use Gimp or Photoshop, but I try to show a little piece of myself in each photo and convey my feelings. I put my heart into it and hope some of it translates into my pictures, that’s all I want to accomplish here, I don’t want to have the most faves, views, or comments, I just enjoy doing it. But, I’m very thankful for every fave, follow, and comment I receive, I appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to have a look!

The September round of Hair-O-Logy is open and [KoKoLoReS] has released two exclusives for it! I’m wearing ‘Sami’ and I love how it’s up off my face and under control. ‘Sami’ needs to be worn with an updo hair base, which is included in system tattoo layer or tintable Omega HUD. I’m not very good at tinting anything, I’ll admit that….but I think I did fairly well this time around. The hair is unrigged mesh for easy fitting and has nice detail with some nice wisps flowing back from the forehead. The [KoKoLoReS] colour palette is extensive with four colour packs each holding 25 colours, the clip is also colour change! Hair-O-Logy runs until September 30.

I’ve thrown on the ‘Amala Bikini’ from Maitreya, for a quick dip!

My look all starts with the ‘Luna’ skin in ‘miel’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento mesh head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya.

I found the ‘Cleanse’ pose on Market Place from {Lyrium}.

Sad Reflection

This is the day that I’m sure most people take a few minutes for sad reflection. I can’t believe it’s been 16 years since that terrible day. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing, as I’m sure most people can. It was a cool fall day, I’d gone for my daily 1 mile walk and enjoyed the clean crisp air. I’d made a pot of coffee for my mid morning break and it was then I decided to turn on the TV. Which was actually really weird, because I never watch morning TV. But, I did and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was disturbed and in utter disbelief as the events unfolded, I couldn’t look away and as it progressed I couldn’t comprehend it all. As the years have passed I still think about that day and how everyone woke up that morning, got ready for work and carried on like it was any other day, thankfully, not knowing what was to happen. Never forget! ♥ It’s also at this time of year that 14 years ago I was at the lowest point of my life, and struggling to find a reason to carry on. Needless to say, I did manage to get through it, it’s been a lot of work and some very tough times since, but I think I’ve got it together, now! Better late than never, I guess! 😀 If only I knew then what I know now, I could have maybe prevented it, but ultimately it was that point in my life that things started turning around. Everything happens for a reason, and in order for me to rise up and live again, I had to hit that dark and cold rock bottom. So, today is a day to remember, of loved ones lost, of the strength of the human spirit, and to live each day with love and acceptance, and to never waste even one minute.

I love how this turned out, I must say! I’m showing you the ‘Amal’ hair from [BAD HAIR DAY], and this is the one hair that I will never let get lost in my inventory! It’s jaw dropping gorgeous and incredibly versatile and very flattering to ‘muh face’! 😀 I’ll remind you that the colour palette from [BAD] is huge, and oh so gorgeous! I’ll never tire of this combination here. I love soft blues and purples, and all the other colour combinations there is. There’s ten colour packs to choose from, or the fatpack, and each set has 28 colours. On top of that, the hair has two layers to customize independently so there’s a huge amount of combinations possible! ‘Amal’ is available now at the [BAD] main store or on Market Place.

Take a minute to zoom in close to see the ‘Cloudy Day Necklace’ a bit better! It’s from !NFINITY and has matching earrings included. The necklace and right and left earrings are all HUD driven separately so you can mix and match, and with each piece having 12 options, it should work for anything you might want to wear it with. I’ve picked the stormy option, which was kind of fitting today!

As per usual, I’m wearing the ‘Luna’ skin in ‘meil’ tone from Avada on the ‘Lilo’ bento mesh head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya. You can only see a little bit of the ‘Dark Metallic Eyeshadow’ from Izzie’s, that I’ve added!

This gorgeous pose is ‘Sad Reflection’ from Del May. The variety of singles and couples poses are incredible. All of the poses are expressive, super natural looking, and unique, which should really kick your creativity into overdrive!

Blessing and Curse

It is both a blessing
And a curse
To feel everything
So very deeply.

~David Jones~

I’m always looking at quotes and lyrics and this one struck me as very apropos for the day. My emotions are always in a state of flux and as they swirl and change during each day, I sometimes feel I’m only along for the ride. This isn’t about being moody or unpredictable, as no one ever really sees these changes. As thoughts go through my mind I feel myself rise up in happiness and plummet when sadness overtakes me. I feel every emotion strongly and am brought to tears easily, but when I find something funny I can laugh with wild abandon. I’m not ashamed of feeling deeply and showing a soft side to my heart, for it’s not weakness, I believe it’s strength that has come from not feeling anything for far too long.

I’ve fallen completely in love with each new release from [BAD HAIR DAY]! This is ‘Kef’, the latest release, and it’s edgy, original, and completely ME! It’s unrigged mesh, scripted for resizing, and includes a mirrored version. If you’re not familiar with the colour palette from [BAD], you definitely have to get acquainted with it. There’s ten colour packs in total and each pack includes 24 textures…..plus……the hair has 2 independent layers to colour, so if you do your math you’ll see that there’s, like, at least a billion colour combinations! Ummm….math never was my strong subject! You can visit the [BAD HAIR DAY] main store or find them on Market Place.

The lovely ‘Luna’ skin in ‘vivante’ tone from Avada is still my favourite! I’m wearing it on the ‘Lilo’ bento mesh head from Catwa and the ‘Lara’ mesh body from Maitreya. I’ve added one of the twelve colours of eyeshadow that’s included in the Satin Eyeshadows set from Buzzeri. It’s available at Blush.

I love this pose! This is the ‘Heartbroken’ pose from CKEY Poses.
